A coin you can mine in a browser tab
MattCoin is a small cryptocurrency with its own blockchain. There will only ever be 500 million MATT, and every one of them is mined by someone.

Your wallet's key is made and kept in this browser. The node never sees it.
Save your private key
This key is your wallet. Anyone who has it can spend your MATT, and if you lose it and this browser's data is cleared, your coins are gone for good.

Where the price comes from
- Someone pays for something in MATT: a logo, a used bike, an hour of tutoring.
- When sending, they tick This pays for something and say what it was worth in dollars.
- That's saved on the blockchain with the payment, so anyone can check it.
- The estimate is the middle value of the last 25 trades. One silly number barely moves a middle value.
It's only as good as what people enter. It isn't a price you can buy or sell at on an exchange.

Mine MattCoin
Mining is how new MATT is made. Computers race to solve a puzzle; the one that solves it adds the next block to the chain and earns that block's reward. The puzzle gets harder as more people mine, so a new block arrives about every 30 seconds.

In this browser
The easiest way. Nothing to install: your browser does the work while this tab is open.
You need a wallet to mine, so rewards have somewhere to go. Create one on the Wallet page.

- More threads mine faster but make your computer work harder. Leave one free if things feel slow.
- Keep the tab open. Mining stops if you close or reload it.
- On a laptop, plug in: mining uses a lot of battery and makes it warm.
On your computer, around the clock
Usually faster, because it uses all your processor cores without a browser in the way, and it keeps going with no tab open. It also runs a full node: your computer checks every block itself, which makes the network stronger.
- Install Python 3.10 or newer.
- Download the MattCoin node and unzip it.
-
Open a terminal in the folder that contains
mattcoin-nodeand run: - Leave it running. It finds the network by itself, downloads the chain, and starts mining. Stop it any time with Ctrl+C.
Good to know
- Why are my new coins "maturing"?
- Mined coins can be spent once 10 more blocks are on top of them. Occasionally two miners find a block at the same moment and one of the two blocks is dropped; the wait makes sure nobody spends coins from a block that vanished.
- Why did I find fewer blocks than expected?
- Mining is a lottery. Your share of the network's speed is your chance at each block, so short stretches swing a lot. Over a day it evens out.
- Will the reward always be 50 MATT?
- It halves every 5 million blocks, about every 4¾ years. That's why there will never be more than 500 million MATT.
- Does mining cost anything?
- Only your computer's electricity. MattCoin never asks for money or payment details.
